10 Paradoxes

Creative people have a great deal of physical energy, but they’re also often quiet and at rest.

For creative people, they have their own vision. They always have positive energy to keep up their creativity side. There are some of creative people who like to act more to create and build their creativity than talk more. Usually creativity pop-up when we are thinks about nothings.

Creative people tend to be smart yet naive at the same time.

Creative people have their own perception about their output. Sometimes some of creative people feels that only them know what is wrong with their output, they won’t listen to others. So, this is when creative people sometimes look so naive but they are smart too in the same time.

Creative people combine playfulness and discipline, or responsibility and irresponsibility.

Basically, creative people combine everything. Their soul, minds, imagination, character, and many more. They create their idea with positive energy such as happiness, playfulness, optimism and more but they have to be discipline to their self because they have to create something. In other way, responsibility is needed by them because without it, is it hard to make those creative minds to be real.

Creative people alternate between imagination and fantasy, and a rooted sense of reality.

For me creativity has no limits, that is why we always use our imagination and fantasy on find something new. In the other side, we do need that sense of reality to make our idea or creation happen.

Creative people trend to be both extroverted and introverted.

Creative people tend to be open but there were also closed. There are times where they will open his mind to people around them, there is also the time they became quiet and daydreamer to think of new creations others.

Creative people are humble and proud at the same time.

I think creative people won’t think what other people thinking about their creation and they have their own proud and contented feeling for it.

Creative people, to an extent, escape rigid gender role stereotyping.

Creative doesn’t have any relations with gender. There is no differences between male and female, in creative words we all the same.

Creative people are both rebellious and conservative.

Creative people likes to think that break the rules is fun. Creative people has no boundaries, they like to break those boundaries. With their own vision and idea, no wonder why they like to break the rules.

Most creative people are very passionate about their work, yet they can be extremely objective about it as well.

Creative doesn’t have any limitation including time, maybe this is what passionate means in here. Creativity could be found anywhere but the problem is we don’t know when does those creative things will show up in our mind. I think this is why they can be extremely objective too.

Creative people’s openness and sensitivity often exposes them to suffering and pain, yet also to a great deal of enjoyment.

Sometimes creative people are overreacted to feeling something. They are more expressive to show up their  idea and their feeling. They can think and feel more about anything happened in their life, it is make why they are more sensitive than the others.

Now I want to share something about IDEO way. This is the IDEO way in five steps in the process of designing a better consumer experience.

1. Observation

IDEO’s cognitive psychologists, anthropologists, and sociologists team up with corporate clients to understand the consumer experience. Some of IDEO’s techniques:
Shadowing Observing people using products, shopping, going to hospitals, taking the train, using their cell phones.
Behavioral Mapping Photographing people within a space, such as a hospital waiting room, over two or three days.
Consumer Journey Keeping track of all the interactions a consumer has with a product, service  or space.
Camera Journals Asking consumers to keep visual diaries of their activities and impressions relating to a product.
Extreme User Interviews Talking to people who really know-or know nothing-about a product or service and evaluating their experience using it.
Storytelling Prompting people to tell personal stories about their consumer experiences.
Unfocus Groups Interviewing a diverse group of people : To explore ideas about sandals, IDEO gathered an artist, a bodybuilder, a podiatrist and a shoe fetishist.

2. Brainstorming

An intense, idea-generating session analyzing data gathered by observing people. Each lasts no more than an hour. Rules of brainstorming are strict and are stenciled on the walls:
Defer Judgment Don’t dismiss any ideas.
Build on the Ideas of Others No ‘buts’, only ‘ands.’
Encourage Wild Ideas Embrace the most out-of-the-box notions because they can be the key to solutions.
Go for Quantity Aim for as many new ideas as possible. In a good session, up to 100 ideas are generated in 60 minutes.
Be Visual Use yellow, red, and blue markers to write on big 30-inch by 25-inch Post-its that are put on a wall
Stay Focused on the Topic Always keep the discussion on target.
One Conversation at a Time No interrupting, no dismissing, no disrespect, no rudeness.

3. Rapid Prototyping

Mocking up working models helps everyone visualize possible solutions and speeds up decision-making and innovation. Some guidelines:
Mock Up Everything It is possible to create models not only of products but also of services such as health care and spaces such as museum lobbies.
Use Videography Make short movies to depict the consumer experience.
Go Fast Build mock-ups quickly and cheaply. Never waste time on complicated concepts.
No Frills Make prototypes that demonstrate a design idea without sweating over the details.
Create Scenarios Show how a variety of people use a service in different ways and how various designs can meet their individual needs.
Bodystorm Delineate different types of consumers and act out their roles.

4. Refining

At this stage, IDEO narrows down the choices to a few possibilities. Here’s how it’s done:
Brainstorm in rapid fashion to weed out ideas and focus on the remaining best options.
Focus Prototyping on a few key ideas to arrive at an optimal solution to a problem.
Engage The Client actively in the process of narrowing the choices.
Be Disciplined and ruthless in making selections.
Focus on the outcome of the process-reaching the best possible solution.
Get Agreement from all stakeholders. The more top-level executives who sign off on the solution, the better the chances of success.

Mengapa kita perlu kreatif? Sebagai mahasiswa yang akan lulus di bidang bisnis, saya berpikir kreatifitas sangatlah penting agar kita dapat selalu memunculkan ide-ide dan inovasi yang baru untuk selalu dapat bersaing dan bertarung di dunia bisnis. Di dalam dunia bisnis, kita tidak dapat diam begitu saja dengan satu inovasi, kita harus terus berkembang dengan inovasi-inovasi kita yang diciptakan dari ide-ide kreatif kita. Itulah mengapa kita perlu Kreatif.

Sosok yang paling kreatif menurut saya adalah The Beatles, jika harus menyebut “sosok” saya akan memilih John Lennon. Lagu-lagu yang mereka bawakan sangat beragam dan bisa di-cover dengan semua jenis musik, sangat brilliant. Syapa yang ga kenal sama Let it be. Help!. Across the Universe dan lain-lain. Tidak heran jika musik The Beatles adalah musik yang memiliki pengaruh paling besar dalam dunia ini. John Lennon adalah orang yang sangat produktif dan kreatif, karya-karyanya terus dikenang sampai saat ini dan tidak pernah mati. Dari sini kita dapat melihat bagaimana kreatifitas dapat mengubah dunia.the beatles

Menurut saya perusahaan yang paling kreatif adalah Google. Kata Google berasal dari kata Googlo. Kata itu diciptakan oleh Milton Sirotta, Ponakan Edward Kasner seorang ahli Matematika dari AS. Sirotta membuat istilah Googlo untuk menyebutkan angka 1 (satu) yang diikuti 100 angka 0 (nol), Oleh karena itu penggunaan kata Google merupakan Refleksi dari kata Googlo. Google tak hanya unik dari asal katanya. Google pun memiliki latar belakang sejarah yang unik. Google lahir dari sebuah pertemuan dua pemuda yang terjadi secara tidak sengaja pada tahun 1995 lalu. Larry Page, alumnus Universitas Michigan (24), yang sedang menikmati kunjungan akhir pekan, tanpa sengaja dipertemukan dengan Sergey Brin, salah seorang murid (23) yang mendapat tugas mengantar keliling Lary. Singkat cerita mereka mendirikan sebuah perusahaan search engine yang dipakai oleh hampir semua orang di dunia ini. Hanya dengan memasukan Keyword, kita bisa mendapatkan dan mencari apa saja yang kita ingin ketahui, sangat-sangat hebat. Kreatifitas Google juga terlihat dari kantornya yang sangat unik.

Arti Sebuah Nama

Hallo! Sebagai perkenalan nama saya Egar Perdana Maulana. Saya akan mencoba mengartikan nama saya sendiri. Egar berasal dari kata Tegar. Tetapi karena saya berasal dari suku Madura, maka eyang (ibu dari bapak saya) merasa jika nama saya Tegar akan terasa seperti orang batak jadi kemudian orang tua saya menghilangkan huruf T didepan dan menjadi Egar. Cukup menarik bukan? Lanjut ke Perdana, yang artinya adalah pertama dan ini menujukan bahwa saya adalah anak pertama. Maulana sendiri berasal dari nama keluarga ayah saya yang memiliki nama paling unik dan seram sedunia yaitu Fir’aun Maulana (jeng, jeng, jeng!). Ya,saya tahu pasti kalian semua pada bertanya kenapa namanya adalah Fir’aun karena kakek saya ingin beliau menjadi seorang pemimpin besar seperti Fir’aun tetapi dengan sifat yang berbeda. Nama yang menarik antara father and son bukan? haha
